Jeet Kune Do and Mixed Martial Arts

With the incredible popularity of Mixed Martial Arts and Bruce Lee being one, if not the most famous martial artist ever, it is often said that Bruce Lee's art of Jeet Kune Do is the same thing as Mixed Martial Arts.

This common misconception comes from the fact that Bruce Lee did research various arts.  He did not take any two or three arts and mixed them together and call it JKD.  While he was most certainly influenced by these arts, mainly fencing and western boxing, he did not state that fencing wll be used as weapon training and boxing will be used as standup training.  He took the best aspects of these arts and deduced how this would fit into his art of Jeet Kune Do.

On page 50 in "Bruce Lee's Commentaries on the Martial Way"  it clearly states, 'it is not simply mixing arts".  In our research and development we take what we can fit into our art, as long as it doesn' t violate the basic tenets given to use by Bruce Lee (such as the basic stance and strong side forward).
