Self Defense for Women

According to the National Organization for Women, nearly one in five women will be assaulted at some point in their life.  The same source cites another staggering statistic.  In New York City alone, police respond to nearly 250,000 calls for domestic violence disputes, which amount to 680 calls per day.  Most of these calls involve women who are victims of violence.

While efforts are being made throughout the country to target those who abuse women, it is important for women to maximize their chances of protecting themselves in the event that an unfortunate incident should transpire.

It is important to note that not all martial arts academies are equal.  Some instructors merely go through some basic techniques, but lack the technical knowledge to truly impart the intricate skills associated with disciplines such as Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), and Boxing.

Our highly trained staff is widely regarded as the leading experts in various forms of Martial Arts and has tremendous experience working with women to help them learn and implement self-defense techniques that work.

We have found that some of our clients are a little apprehensive at first because they fear that their lack of knowledge of Jeet Kune Do or other forms of MMA will make them look foolish in a class.  We want everyone to know that it does not matter how much or how little experience you have when walking through our door.  We assume that out clients come to us with little prior knowledge of MMA, and our staff takes pride in making everyone feel comfortable.

At NY Martial Arts Academy, we offer multiple self-defense courses that are designed to optimize physical fitness while equipping our participants with the necessary skills for effective self-defense.  Whether you are interested in self-defense, or would like a vigorous workout that comes with extensive knowledge of various self-defense measures, contact us today!

What is Basic Front Hand Education?

When reading Bruce Lee's notes it is clear that he was a firm believer in placing the strong side forward.  90% of our striking should be done with our strong hand and our strong leg.  The reasons are two fold.  First, because our...

Blocking, Evasion, Interception

When studying Jeet Kune Do, Defense is categorized as Blocking, Evasion and interception.   Blocking is just as the word implies, stopping and opponents strike with a body part that was not the opponents intended target.  Blocking is the...

Women's Self Defense
